Today Les Eyzies de Tayac is a quaint peaceful touristy little village in the heart of the Vezere Valley, known for being the undisputed Prehistoric Capital of the World. However, it has not always been like this…

A bit of history :

Our Prehistoric ancestors were passing through this area more than 460,000 years ago and there was a very good reason why our Prehistoric ancestors chose to settle here more than 45,000 years ago.
This area with it’s high rising lime stone cliffs offered a safehaven from the wild animals, and at the same time offered great open views both up and down the lush Vezere Valley, making it very easy to keep an eye on the the deer, mammoths and other animals that would follow the Vezere River that winded through the Valley down below. There was no need to “Follow” the animals, the animals would come to them.

The exact same limestone cliffs that offered shelter and protection to our Prehistoric ancestors, also offered shelter and protection for the people during the Middle Ages. Not from wild animals, but from marauders that would come up the river and pillage the farmsteads.
The people from the farmsteads along with their possessions would hide in secret chambers in the cliffs, waiting sometimes days before the invaders moved on continuing their rampage along the way.

The Ring of Les Eyzies

On this adventure we manage to take you back to both the Prehistoric times and Medieval times of how it was in Les Eyzies de Tayac.

The Ring of Les Eyzies is 90% off the beaten trail, and there are “tricky” sections that involve some steep climbs and drops, for this reason it is not suited for everyone.
The adventure starts opposite the Medieval fortified church of Tayac, and soon leaves the roads and houses and starts the exiting trip back in time. The highlights of this trail remain the same, but getting there is always different, only our guide knows how to get you to there.
