Mountain Bike Mayhem tests Neaderthals Revenge

For more than a year now we have been working hard on a new and unique trail that we have named ” Neanderthal’s Revenge “  we are still working on a few minor details, and will be adding this trail to our itinerary as of September this year.

We are extremely happy and proud to have RIP3D from Mountain Bike Mayhem test and film our Vezere & Dordogne Valley trails.

Neanderthal’s Revenge is a fantastic and unique trail, and could well be the oldest Mountain Biking Trail in the world, the trails will take you on Prehistoric trails in the Vezere Valley combined with  Medieval trails of the Dordogne Valley. Riders will be treated with caves, troglodytes, medieval ruins, abandoned medieval hamlets,  fast and furious singletracks,  stunning views and lots more.

Neanderthal’s Revenge consists of a vast network of loops that offers unlimited hours of excellent and unique riding.

For a sneak preview take a look at  RIP3D  who did an extremely fast test ride.

Walking Dordogne looking for Dordogne Accommodation

Walking Dordogne offers a wide range of exciting and unique tours in the Dordogne and Vezere Valley. We are constantly adding new trips to our already extensive list.
In May of 2010 Walking Dordogne will be launching a new trip for mountain bikers ( and hikers in a later stage ) We are in the middle of connecting a vast network of trails that will cover the whole Dordogne, giving the riders to reach all the main attractions using off road tracks and trails and remote and rural roads.
Walking Dordogne is looking for Dordogne accommodation owners who would like to add their property to be listed as an option to stay while exploring the Dordogne on Mountain bike and Foot.
Walking Dordogne will not benefit financially from any accommodation offered. All we are hoping to achive is to add a list of accommodation to link to the Trails. We welcome the more remote and rural accommodation, but it is definitely not a “must”
If you have accommodation in the Dordogne and can accommodate mountain bikers (and their bikes in a secure setting) and / or hikers then please contact us with your details and we will get in touch with you.. Or if you know someone with accommodation in the Dordogne, please forward them this link, I’m sure they will thank you for it.

Thank you

The Walking Dordogne Team

Sacred River of Dreams

NEW FOR 2010 “Sacred River of Dreams”

After our “Valley of Caves” tour, the “Canoe / Hike the Vezere’ is our second most popular trip, and last year we had to turn down 47 people for this trip alone.  “Canoe Hike the Vezere” is a fantastic (long) day trip, as the title suggests, canoeing and hiking to various prehistoric places of interest.  However, we did have one big problem with this trip, and that was to decide WHICH prehistoric sites to hike to, because we can only fit so much into “Dawn till Dusk”  and there is just so much to see, so, we came up with this new Trip    Sacred River of Dreams.

Sacred River of Dreams is the ultimate adventure, we will canoe and explore 30 miles of the Vezere River. Our ancestors settled here, and roamed this area more than 460,000 years ago. These were the hunting grounds of the Neaderthals, and it was here that our ancestors the Cro Magnon settled. This area is riddled with prehistoric caves, shelters and troglodytes, that are unmapped, unknown and  unforgettable. Too much to explore in just one day, so we will stay a night in a real Neanderthal cave, with spectacular views of the valley and river. On day 2 we will continue down river and continue our exploration, and at the end of this adventure we will all enjoy a delicious meal in Les Eyzies de Tayac.

This trip will be offered twice a week, from April thru October 20th. NO trips during July and August, and a max. of 6 people per trip ( 3 canoes)

If you would like to do a canoe / hike trip like this, but would rather not, or cannot do an overnight trip, then consider our “Canoe / Hike the Vezere” trip.

As with ALL our trips, you are guaranteed a UNIQUE and exciting trip of a lifetime.

Dordogne Mayhem Mountain Biking Trail

We are extremely pleased and proud to add ” Dordogne Mayhem “  to our list of Mountain Biking Trails.

Dordogne Mayhem is without doubt one of the best Mountain Biking Trails in the Dordogne.
Dordogne Mayhem offers numerous loops that can be combined with each other. This trail(s) is a one way system, so serious riders can open up without the fear of having someone coming the opposite direction. Depending on each individuals preference, there are unlimted possibilities, from very fast single tracks, sharp and mild switchbacks, numerous whoopie doo’s, and even a section for the downhill warriors ( this section is extreme downhill and requires full body armor and full suspension bike)
Anyone looking to spend a few hours of Mountain Biking excitement  in the Dordogne, should seriously consider joining us on this trail.

Going Underground

blue-trans We are extremely excited with the launch of a new, exciting and unique tour ” Going Underground”
We have spent 2 years exploring the caves, and beyond. “Going Underground” is NOT a “Potholing” adventure, but an adventure for the hikers that want to experience another world underground.
These caves, chambers and tunnels have been used for 1000’s of years, and they played an extremely important role during the Second World  War, where they were used by the French Resistance.

This adventure is suitable for most people, but requires a high level of fitness, the ability to clamber, and not  claustrophobic.

Self Guided hikes in the Vezere and Dordogne

Due to the very high volume of interest in our trips, and the fact that our groups are small, we have to turn down lots of people because we are fully booked, we are now going to start offering “ Self Guided hikes in the Vezere, Beaune and Dordogne Valley

During the winter months we will be mapping out 5 extremely interesting hikes, taking you to the most scenic, interesting and unknown highlights of the Valleys. Caves, Trogladytes, Shelters, Ruins, Forts, Castles and lots more.

The hikes will be loops of about 30km each, but the option to combine hikes can make them much longer, or a lot shorter.
We will supply you with a detailed map, and a GPS with all the hikes marked, incl. places of interest, places to eat, accommodation (if needed), and everything else you will need.

We strongly believe in small groups, and we guarentee that we will not send more than 5 people on a hike at the same time.

More Info will be posted soon.
